HELLGREASER – The Humans Must Die

0

Ok, ghouls, the piece I am going to talk about today is the EP „The Humans Must Die“ by HELLGREASER, another band of what your humble host likes to reffer as the New Breed Of German HorrorPunk (NBOGHP)

The three ghouls from Cologne present their debut as a 4 track CD plus a bonus track. Nice artwork, pure and simple cover is the first thing that hits the eye… but who cares what that thing looks like, the sound is the important part.

First thin that stands out is the voice of Slaughter Lamb, Hellgreasers lead vocalist and guitar player. Soft, where it needs to be, edgy on other parts, it shows a great variety of shades. It reaches heights and lows alike and hits every tone on the spot.

This great voice (really, you should hear it live, even better than on CD) is accompanied by a pretty straight guitar, the thundering bass played by Hair Screaming, and a set of drums that the drummer, Demon Machine, plays like he was beating the war drums for a horde of rabid tribesmen.

The four major tracks are produced in a decent manner, clean enough to be called professional, but still it doesn’t miss the dirt, a good punk-rock production needs. Your humble host recommends their personal theme „Go Hellgreaser Go“, a song that simply invites you to sing along, no matter what.

The only draw back is the bonus track. Not that it is a bad song, in fact it is just as good as all the other songs, but since it is a demo song it is too muted compared to the other tracks.

All together it is a really nice piece of music that really is able to cheer one up and get you in the mood for more. But be careful and not get carried away. It could happen that you find yourself singing along loud in a totally overcrowded subway train.
